• Rose to power through political alliances.

✅ 2003: When Mulayam Singh Yadav became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh,

• He controversially began acquiring land at throwaway prices for industrialists.
• Farmers resisted and thought only a judge’s son could fight against Mulayam Singh.
• They appointed Yashwant Varma as their lawyer.

But then the game changed…

• Mulayam Singh won him over to his side.
• Even while representing farmers, he subtly worked for industrialists and earned Mulayam’s trust.
• He also received hefty payments from business tycoons.

✅ 2006: Mulayam Singh appointed him as Special Counsel for UP government.
✅ 2012: Akhilesh Yadav made him Chief Standing Counsel.
