The Burden of Values: Has Our Education Made UsSelfish?

In India, parents make immense sacrifices for their children’s future. They give up their own comforts to provide their children with the best education possible. But have we ever thought about how, in the name of education, we have neglected our culture, ethics, and family values?

Today’s young generation moves abroad in search of wealth, success, and luxury. They have everything—money, status, resources, and facilities. But they are thousands of kilometers away from their aging parents, who are alone, sick, and helpless in their old age.

Sacrifice in Exchange for Loneliness—Who is Responsible?

A father who fulfilled every wish of his son, who lived in hardship to ensure his son got the best education, is now left alone in his old age—why?

📌 Parents taught their children the importance of money and career but not values.
📌 They sent them to expensive schools instead of temples, leading them into the race for material success from childhood.
📌 They prioritized coaching classes over playgrounds, competition over neighborhood friendships.
📌 They instilled fascination for Western culture instead of love for family and nation.

Today, when that same son has reached the peak of wealth and success, shouldn’t parents reflect on the fact that he is simply following what he was taught?

Is It Only the Son’s Fault?

A son, feeling the pain of his aging parents’ loneliness and suffering, writes a letter to his father. He says:

“Father, I am in America, thanks to your blessings. Your values brought me here, but I was never taught how painful it would be to live away from my parents.”

“Today, I wish to serve you, sit beside you, but I cannot come back because I was raised to believe that career, money, and prestige were the most important things in life.”

“Is it only my fault?”

Should We Reevaluate Our Education System?

It is important to give children a good education, but shouldn’t we also teach them values, patriotism, and their duties toward family?

Shouldn’t we teach our children that serving their parents is more important than earning wealth?
Shouldn’t we make them realize that education is not just for securing a job but for becoming a good human being?
Should we completely abandon our traditions and culture in the race for modernity?

If we don’t wake up today, then in the future, our own children will do the same to us. They will leave us behind for foreign lands, and we too will suffer the same loneliness that so many elderly parents endure today.

What Next? What’s the Solution?

Teach children the importance of family values from an early age.
Help them understand that their duty to their parents is as important as their career.
Encourage balance between material success and emotional responsibilities.
Promote education alongside cultural and moral values.

🚩 Education is essential, but education without values is incomplete. 🚩

Now, it is up to every parent to decide whether they want their children to be only successful or also responsible and compassionate human beings.

🙏 Reflect, discuss, and act! 🙏
