🧨 1. The Gujral Doctrine: When India Tied the Hands of Its Own Spy Network

In 1997, when I.K. Gujral became the Prime Minister, he introduced a “liberal policy” known as the Gujral Doctrine. The aim was to build friendly relations with neighboring countries. But in reality, it became a suicidal move against India’s national security.
❌ The Dangerous Decisions:
- India’s premier intelligence agency RAW was ordered to shut down its operations in Pakistan.
- Several Indian agents were recalled, many of whom were killed by the ISI.
- India voluntarily disclosed that it possessed chemical weapons — a revelation that should have remained a strategic secret.
💣 The Aftermath:
Pakistan got a free hand to strengthen terrorist organizations targeting India.
RAW was left blind and powerless, leading to:
- Kargil War (1999): Over 500 Indian soldiers martyred.
- IC-814 Kandahar Hijacking (1999): India had to surrender and release terrorists like Masood Azhar.
- Indian Parliament Attack (2001): A direct assault on the temple of Indian democracy.

Between 2004 and 2014, under Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the UPA government promoted “peace and dialogue” with Pakistan — but behind that slogan, ISI operatives entered India disguised as artists, poets, and journalists.
🎭 “Aman Ki Asha” — A Hidden Infiltration Plot:
- Under this initiative, Pakistani singers, writers, journalists, and artists were invited to India.
- But many of them were ISI-linked and were used to build terror sleeper cells inside India.
🛑 Intelligence Agencies Were Crippled:
- IB and RAW were instructed not to monitor these Pakistani nationals.
- Political orders made intelligence work toothless and compromised.
⚔️ Even the Army Was Targeted:
- Indian soldiers in Kashmir faced FIRs and legal harassment.
- Attempts were made to dilute AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act).
- Morale of the army was consistently attacked.

When Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014, he brought a bold and strategic shift in India’s security approach.
✅ Decisive Actions Taken:
RAW was reactivated in Pakistan.
- India carried out Surgical Strikes (2016) and Balakot Airstrike (2019) in response to terror attacks.
- Major crackdowns were launched on sleeper cells.
- In Jammu & Kashmir, a zero-tolerance policy was enforced against terrorism and stone-pelting.
💪 Restoration of Self-Respect:
- Army was given full operational freedom.
- Pakistan was diplomatically exposed at global forums.
- India’s national security policy gained clarity and firmness.
