Everything that happens in this world has a cause. Every action a human takes has a purpose. Though the reasons may vary, no action is without cause. Now, the question arises—what is the purpose of our life If we reflect deeply, we will realize that every being in this world is suffering and wants to be free from misery. If suffering ceases, we will experience bliss because bliss is our true nature. If there is no suffering, we will naturally remain happy.
Some people say that we should seek happiness because once we attain happiness, suffering will automatically disappear. This viewpoint is also correct, but it is a difficult path because we must first understand what true happiness is and how to attain it.
Therefore, our first step should be to identify the causes of suffering and eliminate them. Once suffering is removed, happiness will manifest naturally. Through this process, we will gradually come to understand the true nature of bliss.
Types of Sufferings in the World
Sufferings in this world can be categorized into three types:
Adhyatmik (Spiritual Suffering) – Physical and Mental
Adhibhautik (Suffering from Others)
Adhidaivik (Suffering from Natural Calamities)
1. Adhyatmik Suffering (Physical and Mental)
👉 Physical Suffering – Most people suffer from physical ailments due to an unhealthy lifestyle, improper diet, and past karma.
👉 Mental Suffering – Lust, anger, greed, attachment, pride, jealousy, etc., cause constant mental distress. These mental flaws are the root causes of our suffering. Until we eliminate them, we cannot attain true happiness.
2. Adhibhautik Suffering (Suffering Caused by Others)
👉 Sometimes, other people become the cause of our suffering. Since this is not always in our control, we must learn to endure and navigate such situations wisely.
3. Adhidaivik Suffering (Natural Calamities)
👉 Some sufferings arise due to natural causes such as extreme weather, floods, earthquakes, pandemics, etc. While we cannot completely avoid them, we can minimize their impact through preparedness and resilience.
Ways to Overcome Suffering
1. Take Care of Your Health
👉 Maintain a balanced diet, follow a disciplined lifestyle, exercise regularly, and practice yoga and meditation.
2. Avoid Anger and Fear
👉 Anger arises when our desires remain unfulfilled. Therefore, control your desires and cultivate self-reliance.
👉 Fear is caused by weakness and a lack of self-confidence. Strengthen yourself, gain knowledge, and develop self-confidence.
3. Do Not Get Disturbed by Bad News
👉 After an unpleasant event, take appropriate steps, but do not get stuck in worry or regret.
4. Learn to Tolerate Criticism and Disrespect
👉 If someone criticizes you, engage in self-reflection. If you are at fault, correct yourself; otherwise, ignore it.
5. Stay Away from Ego
👉 Any kind of ego leads to anger and frustration. We should cultivate humility.
6. Maintain Courage in Adverse Situations
👉 Difficulties are a part of life. We should face them with patience and look for solutions instead of losing hope.
7. Overcome Financial Problems
👉 If facing financial difficulties, either work harder or reduce unnecessary expenses.
👉 Avoid wasteful spending and save for the future.
What is True Happiness?
👉 The happiness found in this world is temporary, limited, and diminishing. True bliss is eternal, boundless, and everlasting.
👉 Such bliss can only be attained through love for God, devotion, and His divine grace.
👉 Therefore, instead of chasing temporary worldly pleasures, we should strive to attain divine bliss.
God is the True Giver of Happiness
👉 God is omnipotent, omniscient, compassionate, and the ocean of love. He is our true well-wisher.
👉 We (souls) are a part of God. However, due to Maya (illusion), we have forgotten our true nature.
👉 Maya diverts us away from God and entangles us in the material world. To attain true happiness, we must break free from Maya and turn towards God.
Path to Attaining True Happiness
Consider God as your everything and surrender to Him.
Make chanting His name, devotion, and selfless service a way of life.
Renounce lust, anger, greed, attachment, and ego.
Seek the guidance of saints and spiritual masters.
Regularly engage in Satsang, meditation, and spiritual practices.
Absorb divine knowledge and work for the welfare of others.
The purpose of life is a deeply personal journey, shaped by our experiences, values, and connections. While the answer may vary for each individual, finding meaning through love, growth, and contribution can lead to a fulfilling and purposeful life.
👉 Worldly happiness is temporary and fleeting.
👉 Only God is the source of eternal bliss.
👉 We must understand and eliminate the causes of our sufferings.
👉 True happiness can only be attained through devotion and surrender to God.
Thus, the purpose of our life is not just to be free from suffering but to attain God and experience eternal bliss. This is only possible when we embrace Satsang (holy company), Sadhana (spiritual practice), Seva (selfless service), and complete surrender.
🔹 Now is the time to turn our lives in the right direction and move towards God-realization.
🔹 “Surrender to God—He is the ultimate goal!”
