It is unfortunate for India that, on the one hand, our nation is considered a symbol of “harmony among all religions” and “equal justice,” while on the other hand, double standards and biases are applied in the name of equality and secularism. The questions raised by actor Anupam Kher during the Supreme Court hearing on triple talaq are not just his but reflect the concerns of every aware citizen of India.
Triple Talaq and the Question of Justice
When the Supreme Court stated that if triple talaq is a religious matter of Islam, they would not intervene, it is natural to question:
Why is there interference in Hindu religious matters like Jallikattu, Dahi Handi, cow slaughter, and Ram Mandir?
Is Hinduism not considered a religion, or is it merely the fear of Muslim threats?
If the “triple talaq” written in the Quran can be recognized, then why not the birth of Lord Ram in Ayodhya written in the Puranas?
Double Standards:
Beef vs. Pork:
Eating beef is a personal choice, but eating pork is against their religion.
Women’s Rights:
Denying women entry to Shani Shingnapur is oppression, but barring women from entering the Haji Ali Dargah is a religious right.
Religious Practices:
Jallikattu involves cruelty to animals, but sacrificing animals on Bakrid is considered the pride of Islam.
Offering milk to Lord Shiva is wastage, but offering chadars at dargahs fulfills wishes.
Population Control:
“We two, ours two” is family planning, but having many children is considered Allah’s blessing.
Freedom of Expression:
Saying “India will be broken into pieces” is freedom of speech, but chanting “Vande Mataram” puts a religion in danger.
Soldiers vs. Terrorists:
Stone pelters targeting soldiers are misguided youth, but soldiers defending themselves are labeled violators of human rights.
A blast at a dargah led to the term “Hindu terrorism,” but those who bomb places daily are considered to have no religion.
Message for Youth:
Be Aware of the Right to Equality:
No religion, caste, or community should be given special privileges at the cost of weakening another.
Stand for Justice:
If the rules of one religion can be respected, why discriminate against others?
Recognize the Misuse of Religion and Politics:
The politics of appeasement and bias is weakening our country.
Share and Be Aware
If these thoughts resonate with you, share them with your friends and family. We must unite to protect equality, justice, and our Indian culture.
