Attacks from All Sides: Why Are Sanatana Dharma and Hindus Targeted, What Are the Root Causes, and What Is Our Path?

Summary
  • This article delivers a surgical analysis of the multi-dimensional campaigns waged against Sanatana Dharma and Hindu society in the contemporary global and national landscape.
  • While the government over the past decade has executed historic work to reinstate the glory of Sanatana through a cultural resurgence agenda, this article highlights the bitter truth that the root cause of most of our problems is our own drift away from our Sanatana roots, eternal values, and philosophy of life.
  • The article deeply explains how self-styled religious gurus have transformed the fulfillment of worldly desires into a ‘business model’ rather than fostering spiritual elevation, and how our personal egos and greed prevent us from uniting to fight against adharmic forces.
  • Ultimately, this article serves as a direct and sharp call to action for today’s awakened Hindu society to go beyond mere rituals, embrace internal reform, live by core values, and unite ideologically for the ‘protection of Dharma.’

Sanatana Dharma Under Attack: Causes and the Way Forward

1. Perspective: Multi-Dimensional Siege of an Ancient Civilization and Our Primary Mistake

In 21st-century India and across the global landscape, an extremely concerning reality is unfolding. Sanatana culture and Hindu society are facing direct and indirect attacks from all sides. Across art, literature, academia, mainstream media, and geopolitical platforms, our faith is continuously targeted.

  • The Price of One-Sided Tolerance: Sanatana tradition taught the entire world the ethos of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ (the world is one family) and ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ (may all be happy). But today, as we face these external and internal attacks, we must engage in self-introspection as to why this is happening.
  • Our Own Failure: The single greatest and fundamental root cause behind all major challenges today—be it social fragmentation, ideological subjugation, or attacks on faith—is that we have drifted far away from our own Sanatana roots, eternal values, and philosophy of life. When a society abandons its core principles, the protective shields guarding it naturally weaken.

2. Why Is Sanatana Repeatedly Targeted? (Core Historical and Ideological Reasons)

Why does Sanatana Dharma remain the primary target for various ideologies and global forces? There are fundamental and indisputable reasons behind this:

  • Opposition to Pluralism and Intellectual Freedom: Sanatana Dharma is not bound to a single book, a single prophet, or a single rigid method of worship. It is rooted in the tradition of ‘Asato Ma Sadgamaya’ and logical inquiry, granting every individual the freedom to seek truth in their own way. Monopolistic and imperialistic ideologies cannot tolerate this pluralism, as their entire structure rests on the dogma of ‘one absolute truth.’
  • Mistaking Tolerance for Weakness: The inherent nature of Sanatana has been deeply tolerant and inclusive. However, in ideological warfare, this generosity is often mistaken for weakness, providing adversaries an opportunity to launch calculated attacks on its symbols, traditions, and faith.

Fear of Cultural Nationalism: Whenever India returns to its civilizational roots and rejuvenates its glorious past, forces that wish to see India ideologically weak, divided, and directionless become deeply uncomfortable

3. Government Efforts vs. Individual Conduct: Where Is the Gap?

In recent years, the political and administrative leadership of the country has accomplished unprecedented and historic work to revive Sanatana Dharma and restore cultural pride.

  • Grand Resurgence: The historic construction of the Shri Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the transformation of Kashi-Vishwanath Dham, Kedarnath-Mahakal Lok, and the global recognition of Indian culture have awakened a new sense of self-belief within the nation. The government has demonstrated strong willpower and fulfilled its responsibilities with utmost sincerity.
  • Absence of Personal Value Practice: However, the element most conspicuously missing today is ‘the practice of Sanatana values at an individual level.’ Governments can build temples, beautify corridors, and formulate policies, but the internal adoption of Sanatana virtues like truth, restraint, compassion, service, and righteousness can only be performed by each individual in society. Until we practice these values in our daily lives, external symbols alone cannot make a society resilient.

4. The Role of Religious Gurus: Spirituality or Business?

In this ideological and moral decline, the role of our self-styled religious gurus, saints, and preachers has also been deeply disappointing and a matter of grave concern.

  • A ‘Business Model’ Built on Worldly Desires: Instead of making their discourses and events a medium for truth, detachment, and self-purification, the majority of today’s religious gurus and storytellers have turned them into instruments for fulfilling people’s worldly desires, material attachments, and luxury-seeking tendencies.
  • Neglect of Truth and Dharma: They preach content that gathers large crowds, because their ‘business model’ thrives only when they convince the public that performing certain rituals will fulfill their material wishes (wealth, status, comfort).
  • Silence Against Adharma: Instead of inspiring society to stand for truth, tolerance, mutual welfare, and the protection of Dharma against adharmic forces, these self-styled gurus choose silence for their commercial and personal safety, knowing that a sharp, organized society might challenge their personal empires and influence.

5. Ego, Greed, and the Tendency to Take Religion ‘Lightly’

The internal vulnerabilities that Hindu society faces today are largely driven by our own internal flaws.

  • Taking Religion Too Lightly: We have reduced our religion to superficial rituals, posting social media statuses on festival days, or fulfilling empty formalities. We have stopped reading, understanding, and living its deep philosophy, self-discipline, and eternal science.
  • The Walls of Ego and Greed: Personal ego (“I am superior, others are inferior”) and narrow, greedy materialism have built massive walls between us.
  • The Greatest Obstacle to Unity: Whenever a crisis confronts society, we retreat into our castes, regions, languages, and personal egos. This very ego and greed prevent us from uniting effectively to fight against forces that systematically seek to erase Sanatana. Invaders and adharmic forces exploit precisely this internal fragmentation.

6. Modern ‘Toolkits’ and Ideological Warfare

In today’s digital and intellectual era, the methods used to attack Sanatana have evolved. Weapons of steel have been replaced by weapons of ‘narratives’:

  • Selective Sensitivity: A major segment of mainstream intellectuals and sponsored ecosystems consistently puts Hindu society, its festivals, beliefs, and customs in the dock. While remaining silent on the regressive practices of other cultures, they magnify every minor aspect of Hindu society to brand it as backward or oppressive.
  • Pop Culture and Academic Propaganda: From Western universities to select domestic institutions, concerted efforts are made to give ‘Hinduphobia’ an academic veneer. Films, advertisements, and OTT platforms systematically mock Hindu beliefs, deities, and saint traditions to instill an inferiority complex in the younger generation regarding their own culture.

7. Solution and the Path Forward: Returning to Our Roots

There is only one path to overcome this multi-dimensional siege and internal decay—returning to our core Sanatana values:

  • Personal Reform and Conduct: Instead of pointing fingers at others, we must embody truth, non-violence, righteousness, and morality in our daily conduct, aligning our lifestyle with Sanatana ideals.
  • Reject Commercial Gurus: Society must now decide to honor true seekers and nation-building saints, rather than those who turn religion into a commercial business or entertainment.
  • Shedding Ego and Uniting Collectively: We must transcend personal egos and petty self-interests to unite under the banner of ‘Nation First.’ Until Hindu society sheds its internal friction and binds itself into a single thread, it cannot effectively resist external and internal adversaries.
  • Cultural and Ideological Literacy: Hindu society must connect its younger generation with the Vedas, Upanishads, epics, and true history, ensuring they do not fall prey to deceptive narratives or propaganda.

History stands witness that whenever a society abandoned its internal values, it weakened. Despite relentless attacks, Sanatana has survived because it is the path of eternal truth. All that is required now is to awaken our consciousness, correct our errors, and live our Sanatana culture with complete authenticity.
