Global superpower politics and Ukraine's historical crisis, highlighting geopolitical decisions from Vienna to Shenzhen

Superpowers Behind Closed Doors and the Historical Fall of Ukraine: History Repeating from Vienna to Shenzhen

Summary
  • This analytical commentary deeply reviews how global superpowers (Russia, the United States, and China) determine world borders according to their own geopolitical interests, completely sidelining the aspirations and sovereignty of smaller nations.
  • Based on fresh October 2026 developments and a report by the Wall Street Journal, this article details the potential end of the Ukraine war, President Zelenskyy’s historic U-turn, a potential ceasefire modeled on the Korean precedent, and the strategic helplessness of Europe.
  • It underlines how, trapped by the illusion of NATO membership, Ukraine sacrificed 25% of its territory, an entire generation, and its future.

Ukraine’s Fall and the Politics of Superpowers

I. History Repeating: Superpowers Dictating Borders Behind Closed Doors

It is an eternal and bitter truth of global politics that whenever geopolitical equations shift in the wake of major conflicts, decisions are always forged in the closed rooms of superpowers, while those whose destinies are being decided are never consulted.

  • The Congress of Vienna (1815): Following the fall of Napoleon, representatives of Russia, Austria, Prussia, and Britain sat in Vienna and redrew the map of Europe. Where borders would lie, which monarch would sit where, and which small nation would fall to whom were decided dictatorially without ever asking the populations or smaller states involved.
  • The Yalta Conference (1945): At the end of World War II in Yalta, Crimea, Churchill, Roosevelt, and Stalin sat together and carved up Eastern Europe into their respective spheres of influence. Poland’s new borders were drawn, but no one bothered to ask Poland a single word.
  • The Shenzhen Proposal (October 2026): Exactly this narrative is repeating in modern times. According to the Wall Street Journal, Vladimir Putin has proposed a high-level summit with Donald Trump and Xi Jinping to discuss bringing a permanent end to the war in Ukraine. During this proposed secret dialogue slated for the APEC summit in Shenzhen on November 18–19, there is no indication that Ukraine will be included, nor will any representative from Europe be present.

II. Zelenskyy’s Historic U-Turn and the Bitter Formula of Status Quo

The leadership of Ukraine, which spent four and a half years spewing aggressive, empty, and defiant rhetoric against Russia, was finally forced to bow before the terrifying and unyielding reality on the ground.

  • The Shocking Admission on Fox News: On October 21, President Zelenskyy uttered words on the American channel Fox News that no major Ukrainian leader had stated so explicitly in four and a half years. When asked if he would accept a settlement leaving the current situation as status quo, his forced response was “yes.”
  • The Real and Permanent Loss of 25 Percent Territory: If the status quo holds, Ukraine will naturally be left with only about 75 percent of its land, while the remaining vital, fertile, and strategic territory will remain permanently under Russian occupation. Thus, a conflict that began with hollow slogans of “not an inch of territory will be surrendered” has ended with the voluntary loss of a quarter of the country.
  • Paper Recognition vs. Actual Territorial Control: Even if Zelenskyy continues to claim politically that he will not formally recognize Russian occupation, the bitter reality is that roughly 25% of Ukraine has directly passed into Russia’s camp. Russia cares little whether the Kyiv government recognizes it on paper, as actual control on the ground rests entirely with the Russian military.

III. The Korean Peninsula Model: History’s Most Accurate and Living Precedent

The trajectory toward which this destructive war is heading finds its most precise historical parallel in the Korean War—an arrangement that remains an undeniable reality decades later.

  • The Historic Armistice of 1953: An armistice took effect across the Korean Peninsula on July 27, 1953. The battlelines froze where they stood, a heavily armed Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) was established in between, and no final formal peace treaty has ever been signed to this day.
  • The Temporary Line as Today’s Permanent Border: More than seventy years have passed, and that “temporary” dividing line is counted today among the most stable and permanent borders in the world. South Korea never dropped its claim over the North, nor the North over the South, yet both have lived quietly on their respective sides. The future of the Russia-Ukraine conflict is visibly shaping up around this very Korean model.

IV. American Energy Compulsions and Europe’s Pathetic Strategic Helplessness

Throughout this sequence of events, not only has Ukrainian diplomacy failed completely, but the position of the entire European continent has turned into one of utmost pathos, helplessness, and public ridicule.

  • The Forced U-Turn on Energy Policy: At the outset of the war, Western nations believed they could completely choke off Russian oil and gas revenues to force Moscow to its knees. Today, however, the United States itself is forced to find new pathways for that same Russian energy and oil because prices at domestic petrol pumps are soaring. Ukraine is increasingly becoming a major roadblock in the practical energy policies of its primary protector (the United States).
  • Europe’s Total Desolation and Isolation: Over the past four and a half years, Europe severed nearly all trade and diplomatic ties with Russia, spurned cheap Russian gas, and dismissed every peace proposal as “appeasement.” Having surrendered its security entirely to American mercy, Europe today finds the US cutting direct major deals with Russia while Europeans possess neither a channel to talk to Moscow nor the power to stop Washington.

V. The Accounting of Devastation: A Nation Utterly Ruined by Others’ Lures

Plunging into the bloody arena of superpowers on a whim, driven by Western instigation and delusions of Western weaponry, always yields catastrophic destruction—and Ukraine stands today as its largest, living example.

  • A Lost Generation and a Country Reduced to Ruins: What did Ukraine ultimately gain by casting its entire nation into the furnace of this horrific war? Its entire youth was either slaughtered on the battlefield or fled the country permanently, the blood of its soldiers flowed in the streets, and centuries of fertile, precious land were lost forever. Today, Ukraine has become a ruin where restoring normalcy will take not just decades, but multiple generations.
  • Hollow Rhetoric and Laughter-Inducing Contradictions: To slide into a position of total capitulation after losing a quarter of the nation, while simultaneously issuing sharp declarations like “we will not recognize Russian occupation” or “we demand Western security guarantees,” is nothing more than political posturing. Begging for security guarantees from the very Russia to escape whose shadow they ran into NATO’s lap is akin to pleading with a cunning thief to guard your own safe.

VI. Geopolitical Realities and Heavy Leadership Myopia

This entire arc highlights the bitter and eternal truth that when regional and ambitious leaders surrender their strategic autonomy under the influence of external forces, the ultimate heavy price is paid by the ordinary citizens of the country.

  • Politics is Not Governed by Sentiment: The Ukraine crisis has proven once again that global geopolitics is never driven by raw sentiment, hollow slogans, or paper declarations; it is governed strictly by brutal military might, hard economic realities, and the selfish calculations of superpowers.
  • The Fall of Hubris: Zelenskyy’s eventual submission symbolizes above all that the naked reality of the ground and the brutality of war ultimately shatter every form of political ego and empty Western promise.

Conclusion: The Inescapable Truth of History

  • From Vienna to Shenzhen, history testifies that powers playing games by using smaller nations as pawns ultimately strike deals tailored to their own interests.
  • This fall of Ukraine serves as a profound lesson to the entire world that without self-reliance and strategic equilibrium, no nation can secure its preservation.
