Summary
- This discourse treats astrology as a mere ‘signaling science’ and seeks the true solutions to human life within the core pillars of Sanatana principles—Prarabdha (Destiny), Rebirth, and Nishkam Karma (Selfless Action).
- In contrast to the ‘remedies’ often marketed in today’s commercialized astrological landscape, this analysis establishes that internal transformation, moral purification, and surrender to the Divine are the ultimate solutions to all life’s challenges.
- It clarifies that true success and happiness are not derived from the alignment of planets, but from the purity of one’s actions and the depth of one’s wisdom.
Are We Puppets in the Hands of Planets?
- Often, when a human being is in distress, their first instinct is to run toward their birth chart. They want to know which planet is punishing them and which gemstone or ritual can ‘save’ them from that suffering. However, Sanatana philosophy asks a very fundamental question: “Are the planets causing you pain, or are they merely delivering the fruits of your own past actions?”
- Astrology is, in reality, a ‘map of the sky’ that reflects the energy conditions at the moment of your birth. It should be understood like a ‘doctor’s report.’ Just as a report identifies the cause of a disease but you must take the medicine yourself, astrology indicates obstacles, but the path to liberation from them lies solely within the Sanatana way of life.
1. The Principle of Prarabdha: What Was Sown Is Now Before You
In Sanatana Dharma, Karma is divided into three main categories: Sanchit (accumulated), Agami (future), and Prarabdha (destiny/allotted).
- What is Prarabdha? It is the portion of our accumulated actions from infinite past lives that has ripened to bear fruit in this current life. A birth chart is the mirror of this Prarabdha.
- The Power of Acceptance: When we understand that whatever crisis or joy stands before us today is the result of our own past choices, complaints cease. ‘Acceptance’ is more important than ‘remedies.’ Accepting a situation calms half of the mind’s turbulence.
- The Limits of Astrology: No astrologer can erase your Prarabdha. If it is destined that a thorn shall prick you, prayer or spiritual practice can provide the strength to endure the pain, or perhaps minimize the wound, but the karmic debt must be paid.
2. Rebirth: A Small Halt in a Long Journey
Our current life is not an accidental event but a small chapter in a very long journey. The principle of rebirth tells us that death is like changing clothes; the soul’s tendencies (Sanskaras) and its karmic ledger travel with it.
- Repayment of Debt: Many times we feel, “I haven’t done anything wrong in this life, so why am I suffering?” The science of rebirth explains this as ‘Karmic Debt.’ Terms like ‘Pitra Dosha’ or ‘Karmic Debts’ in astrology actually reflect this imbalance.
- An Opportunity to Learn: Planets do not come to punish us; they come to teach us. If Saturn brings struggle, it wants to teach us discipline and patience. If Rahu creates illusion, it challenges us to recognize the veil of Maya. Until the soul learns that ‘lesson,’ the cycle continues to repeat.
3. Nishkam Karma: The Only Door to Liberation from Planetary Bondage
The core teaching of the Bhagavad Gita—’Nishkam Karma’ (Selfless Action)—is the key that can unlock the cage of astrology.
- Renouncing Doership: When we say “I am doing this” and “I want the fruit,” we bind ourselves to the cycle of Karma. This bondage subjects us to the influence of the planets. But when a human performs actions with ‘Ishwar-Arpan’ (offering to the Divine), their actions become ‘Akarma’ (non-binding).
- Equanimity (Sthitapragyata): A person who has stabilized themselves in joy and sorrow, gain and loss, is not significantly affected by planetary influences. Did Lord Krishna or Lord Rama not have birth charts? They did, and they contained yogas of great struggle, yet they remained unaffected because they were centered in the Self.
- Real Remedies vs. Market Remedies: The business running today in the name of ‘planetary peace’ is ‘Sakam Karma’ (greed-based). Sanatana Dharma teaches that the peace of planets is not found in stones (gems) but in ‘worthiness’ and ‘transformation.’ If your Mars is afflicted, renounce anger—that is the greatest remedy.
4. The Commercialization of Modern Astrology and How to Protect Yourself
In today’s times, astrology is being presented as a medium of fear and greed. Phrases like “Perform this puja or something terrible will happen” or “Wear this stone to become a millionaire” go against the very soul of Sanatana Dharma.
- The Business of Fear: The Sanatana path makes one ‘fearless.’ If any knowledge frightens you, understand that it is business, not spirituality. The Sages discovered astrology for self-knowledge, so that humans could identify which weaknesses they needed to work on.
- Character Building is the Solution: The real antidote to any planetary affliction is ‘Satsang’ (holy company), ‘Sadhana’ (spiritual practice), and ‘reforming one’s nature.’ Charity does not mean just giving money; it means donating your own ego and attachments.
- Surrender to the Divine: When a person surrenders completely to the Almighty, the laws of the planets become secondary for them. “If Rama protects, who can kill?”—this faith is greater than any ‘Dosha’ (affliction).
5. The Real Formula for a Successful Life
Success does not merely mean economic prosperity or social prestige. As the theme of your book suggests—”Why am I not happy, even after success?”—the answer is that happiness is not in the external arrangement of planets, but in internal balance.
- View astrology as a guide, not as your master.
- Accept your Prarabdha with dignity and create new, noble actions with a ‘Nishkam’ (selfless) spirit.
- Understand the truth of rebirth and live this life as a spiritual practice (Sadhana).
Ultimately, only that person is happy who has recognized their ‘Inner Soul.’ The movement of planets will continue, but your soul is immovable and immortal. Connecting with that immovable center is the final solution to every problem.
