Temples of Education or Centers of Organized Loot? The UDISE+ Report and the Opposition’s Double Standards

Summary
  • The latest UDISE+ (2025-26) report released by the Union Ministry of Education has exposed the state of India’s primary government education system and the administrative machinery across various states.
  • The report reveals that 5,663 schools across the country have zero enrolled students, yet salary bills continue to be cleared regularly. The epicenter of this crisis is non-BJP-ruled states (especially West Bengal), where public tax money is being ruthlessly wasted for vote-bank and political appeasement.
  • Conversely, when the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh optimized the school system by merging unviable schools, the opposition ecosystem propagated a misleading narrative.
  • This article presents a detailed analysis of organized loot in the name of education, the opposition’s double standards, and the clash between nation-building and appeasement politics.

Allegations of Exploitation in the Name of Education: Growing Concerns Among Parents

1. Shocking Findings of the UDISE+ Report: Zero Enrollment and Open Loot of Taxpayer Money

The data released by the Ministry of Education does not merely highlight administrative failure; it presents a grim picture of deliberate and organized wastage of public funds:

  • National Crisis: Across India, 5,663 government and aided primary and upper-primary schools were found to have zero student enrollment.
  • West Bengal: The Epicenter:
    • Out of the total zero-enrollment schools nationwide, a staggering 73% are in West Bengal alone.
  • The state has 4,133 schools where not a single student studies, yet 19,502 government teachers draw regular salaries under the names of these ghost schools.
  • Grave Administrative Imbalance:
    • While 19,000+ teachers draw salaries without students in 4,133 empty schools, the future of 2.29 million children across 6,769 government schools in West Bengal depends on just a single teacher each.
    • This proves that the administrative failure stems not from a lack of resources, but from corrupt and politically motivated allocation.

2. The Way of Opposition-Ruled States vs. Yogi Government’s ‘Optimization Model’

The starkest contradiction in this entire issue lies in administrative intent and policy execution:

  • Wasatge of Resources in Opposition-Ruled States: In non-BJP states, schools with only 2 to 5 children are kept artificially running solely to accommodate political supporters as “teachers” and maintain a cadre for electoral appeasement. The wastage of public money is of no concern here.
  • The Uttar Pradesh Government’s Decisive and Pragmatic Step:
    • Demonstrating administrative foresight, the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh merged over 7,000 unviable schools with extremely low enrollment (fewer than 10 students) into nearby, well-resourced government schools.
    • Multipurpose Reuse of Resources: Instead of abandoning empty school buildings to ruin, they were converted into Anganwadi centers, Primary Health Centers (PHCs), or community digital hubs. This provided children with better teachers and playgrounds while halting the drainage of public funds.

3. Misleading Narratives and the Opposition Ecosystem’s Double Standards

When the Yogi government optimized schools to safeguard public resources and improve educational quality, opposition parties and a specific ecosystem immediately launched a propaganda campaign:

  • Baseless Allegations: The opposition ecosystem spun a narrative claiming the “government is closing government schools to deprive poor children of education” and “indirectly promoting private schools.”
  • Silence on Facts: The same political network and a section of the media remain tight-lipped about the multi-million-rupee financial loot occurring in zero- and low-enrollment schools in opposition-ruled states like Bengal and Punjab.
  • Nation Building vs. Vote-Bank Politics: This clearly demonstrates that the anti-national and opposition network has no regard for curbing the waste of government resources or national progress. Their sole agenda is securing vote-banks through minority appeasement.

4. Political Appointments and the Game in Punjab and Other States

  • Administrative Imbalance in Punjab: Approximately 5,200 government schools in Punjab suffer from an severely imbalanced teacher-student ratio, with multiple schools having more staff than students.
  • Tool for Election Duty: In several states, the primary role of these paper-based teachers has shifted away from improving academic quality, functioning instead as ground-level vote managers and election campaigners during polls. This represents a grave betrayal of national interest.

5. A Strategic Roadmap for Primary Education Reform

To make India’s primary education system world-class, the following steps are vital:

  1. Digital Mapping and Transparent Data: Implement mandatory geo-tagging and biometric attendance for every school nationwide to completely eliminate ghost teachers and fake enrollments.
  2. National School Consolidation Policy: Merge unviable schools within a 1–2 kilometer radius to establish ‘Model Cluster Schools’ equipped with dedicated subject teachers, computer labs, and modern sports facilities.
  3. Administrative Accountability: File financial fraud cases and recover funds from officials who continued releasing salaries to zero-enrollment schools for years.

6. Conclusion: Recognize the Truth and Reject Misleading Narratives

  • Education forms the backbone of any nation. If temples of education are weaponized for political appeasement, fraudulent appointments, and organized financial plunder, the country’s future will be plunged into darkness.
  • We must understand that streamlining unviable and vacant infrastructure is not “closing schools,” but rather “ensuring the correct utilization of public funds and strengthening education.” Recognize the lies of the opposition ecosystem and raise your voice in the national interest.

Nation First, Quality Education Foremost.

Wake up, fellow citizens, and stand by the truth! 🚩
